Mweka Cultural tour is a people-to-people program run at Mweka and adjacent villages on the slope of Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers a rich insight into the traditions and lifestyle of the Chagga people of Tanzania. It is an opportunity to taste local cuisine, participate in rituals, and interact with Chagga.

This tour takes you to the marvelous archaeological tunnel that was dug by eight members of the Chagga family in the 18th century to escape from livestock raiders during inter- and intra-tribal wars. While walking, you see architectural design and get stories about the effectiveness of the tunnel

This tour takes you through banana farms to learn the magic of bananas in Chagga life, including Chagga cuisines made up of bananas such as machalari, kiburu, kitawa, mtori, mlaso, ngararimo, kisusio, kimamtine, ng’ande, and various local beverages as banana products.

Walk through coffee and banana farms to learn and experience how coffee is grown, harvested, processed, and packaged, and then taste the authentic flavor of the finest Arabica coffee grown on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro

Experience Chagga traditional dance and music performed during various ceremonies and social gatherings. The dance is characterized by rhythmic movements, lively drumming, and colorful attire, reflecting themes of unity, happiness, and community spirit. The dance is accompanied by melodic chants and vocal harmonies

This tour takes you to waterfalls in the Kichau and Kifura rivers that flow from Mount Kilimanjaro. It gives you an opportunity to meditate and become stress-free

Get to know the history of a century-plus-old church that was built by early missionaries during the pre-colonial era in the 1840s. This church is still active today, with masses and different Catholic events taking place in the church

Walk around Mweka and nearby villages and enjoy Chagga’s daily lifestyle, including the unique cultivation style called “Chagga Botanical Garden”, traditional beers, building style, and traditional food

Experience the beauty of mountainous forests and the Kilimanjaro region by walking at the edge of Kilimanjaro National Park, which has amazing scenery inhabited by varieties of plants, wildlife, and bird species.

It is a lovely picnic area that sits right next to Kilimanjaro National Park, which has a tranquil environment and is an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The site is blessed with all the beauty worth visiting for a holiday, weekend outing, or vacation, such as camp fire, flavorful nyama choma, refreshing drinks, music, and challenging sports
