MARANGU ROUTE
Overview
The Marangu Route is also known as the “Coca Cola” or “tourist” route. It is the quickest and simplest way to go to the summit. This is also the only route offers accommodation in huts at every point you spend your night with solar lights and comfortable beds. The two bottom huts have bathrooms and running water.
Itinerary
You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town; you will meet your guide who will brief you on your upcoming trek and do an equipment check to make sure you have all the necessary mountain gear. Gear which is missing can be rented on this day
After breakfast drive to the Marangu, Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (45 minutes) for registration. Then proceed 3 hours (7km) ascending through the rainforest to Mandara hut located at 9,000 ft / 2,740 m where you will stay for overnight. This camp consists of a group of wooden A-framed huts and flush toilets behind the main hut.
After breakfast in the morning, we proceed with hiking to Horombo hut for dinner and overnight stay through a short stretch of forest through to moorland, circumventing the base of the Maundi Crater. It is five hours hiking (12km). Horombo hut is a best place to acclimatize before proceeding within hiking.
After breakfast early in the morning proceed climbing to Kibo Hut. It is 5 hours walk (10 km). The trek will take us to the last water point and saddle of Kilimanjaro that passes through Kibo peaks and Mawenzi. You will experience vegetation change from heartland into desert-like structure.
Awake at 23.30 pm fo final ascent to Uhuru Peak. It is 5 hours to conquer Gillman’s Point on the crater rim. From Gillman’s Point you will start encountering snow all the way up to Uhuru peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. After taking photos at the summit proceed 3 hours descending back to Kibo Hut. Then proceed descending to Horombo Hut in afternoon for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast proceeds with the gentle trek through the rainforest to Marangu Gate, where we complete park formalities and receive certificates, which you can hang up with pride. Then drive back to the hotel for dinner, overnight and farewell
